The Mizutani Story
The History
The beginning of Mizutani all started in 1921 in Asakusa, Tokyo where Mizutani decided to create scissors from the passion and the necessity of the best quality scissors. Mizutani was not satisfied with the idea of just “scissors only for cutting” and therefore developed “scissors for easy-use and well-cutting.” Over the years Mizutani has improved the traditional craftsmanship and has taken the entire concept it to another level. To this day Mizutani continues to focus and improve the quality and design of scissors. Mizutani Family (1920's)
The Material

Acro Stellite contains 50% or more of cobalt. Stellite is a cobalt based material that gives you a soft and sticky cutting feeling. Another feature is that the sharpness lasts longer.
DAMA uses CMC micro powder metal (patented) to make the blade last longer. This material contains the more molybdenum than usually.
We choose the best characterstics of the steel for slide cutting scissors and thinning scissors as well. Mizutani always uses the correct material that always meets the purpose of the scissors properly, not just by changing the grade.
We pay close attention to heat-treatment. Our scissors are hardned by the high temperature of 1000 degrees of more. Then the scissors are cooled downed suddenly by the temerpatur of -100 degrees (“sub-zero” process) to remove the retained austenite. This process makes the scissors a minium distortion. Under such a conditon, steel only gets hard.
The Craftsmanship

The Design and Trend
Even simple scissors have changed its the design with the hairstyle and the fashion trend. Here are some of our symmetrical type scissors that were made through the years. For example, this 4.5 inches scissors made in the 70's are the one in time when Sassoon cut became popular. The leaf type scissors made in the 60' are the prototype of current Acroleaf and Acroleaf Wide. New Pixy which was released in 2006 has ergonomic form with three-dimentional design handle.
Although these are very simple symmetrical type scissors, they have been constantly changing its design to adapt the fashion trend.
